LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Friday reserved its verdict on a petition filed by PTI leader Aleem Khan challenging a contempt petition filed by National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq against the former.
Mr Sadig had filed the petition before an Election Tribunal seeking an action against Mr Khan for allegedly submitting a fake affidavit in election matter of NA-122.
Mr Khan opposed the contention of the speaker and stated in his petition that submission of an affidavit did not mean that he violated order of any court.
He said the contempt peti-tion against him should be dismissed.
A deputy attorney general opposed the petition of Aleem Khan saying that submitting a fake affidavit before any court of law was amounted to committing contempt of court. However, he said the matter did not fall within the jurisdiction of the high court and the election commission was the appropriate forum to take up the dispute.
Justice Ayesha A Malik reserved verdict on the maintainability of the petition. Mr Sadiq had defeated Mr Khan in a by-poll held in NA-122 retaining the office of the NA speaker. Staff Reporter
