Dr Iqrar retires as UAF VC

TOBA TEK SINGH: Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan retired as Vice Chancellor of the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, on Sunday after serving the varsity for 14 years as VC in different tenures.

Born in a village of Shahkot (Sheikhupura district), Dr Khan did his masters from the UAF with distinction and was selected as a lecturer by his alma mater. He was awarded scholarship for PhD studies in the University of California, Riverside, USA.

He is the recipient of Hilal-i-Imtiaz, Sitar-i-Imtiaz and French Civil Award for his services for agriculture and research. He introduced potato and mango varieties and also earned distinction in citrus research.

He also served the NIAB as chief scientist and worked in the Sultan Qaboos University, Oman.

The university introduced 50 new varieties of crops in the last three years. Under the Rocky Fellow, he rendered services in the citrus research with the University of Florida.

Dr Khan said is writing his autobiography (Igrarnama) which will go public in a few months.
