CIA nabs `killers` of Gepco EXEN

GUJRANWALA: The CIA police arrested on Tuesday two people for their alleged involvement in the murder of Gujranwala Electric Power Company (Gepco) executive engineer (EXEN) Mazher Nawab.
Police presented Gepco accounts officer Malik Siftul Hassan and Irfan at a press conference where Hassan confessed to informing Irfan about the movement of Nawab`s vehicle.
City Superintendent of Police Tahir Maqsood Cheena told a press conference EXEN Nawab was killed by Irfan, a relative of Hafiz Tanvir Awan and Zakaur Rehman, who had an enmity with Gepco subdivisional officer Javed Chattha. Irfan opened fire at Nawab`s vehicle on GT Road on January 12 as he was informed by Hassan that Chatta was also traveling in Nawab`s vehicle. As a matter of luck, Chatta had got off the vehicle a bit earlier while the shooter went ahead with his plan.
Hassan said he was arelative of Awan and belonged to Faisalabad`s Chak 68. Police are after Awan.
OPERATION: Police andlawenforcementagencies personnel rounded off over a dozen suspects on Thursdayin asearchoperation around universities and other educational institutions and shifted them to some undisclosed location for interrogation.
Police also increased security around government and private educational institutions. The measures were taken after an attacl< on the Charsada University on Wednesday.
BAR: The District Bar Association observed on Thursday a mourning day for the deceased of the Bacha Khan University in Charsada. At a meeting in the bar room, bar president Waqar Husain Butt and general-secretary Syed Imran Haider emphasised the need to adopt tight security measures for educational institutions.
They praised the army and university guards for killing the militants.
Lawyers stayed away from courts proceedings.
