SHO manhandles Sepco lineman

LARKANA: Employees of the Sukkur Electric Power Supply Company (Sepco) laid a siege to the Waleed police station after the SHO beat up a Sepco lineman and threw him behind bars on Monday.

They ended the protest only after police released the lineman, Irshad Khokhar.

Nisar Shaikh, a leader of the Wapda Hydro Electric Labour Union, said the only crime the lineman had committed was that he had dared to pay a visit toSHO Khalil Massan`s house and discover two illegal power connections. It infuriated the SHO so much he that subjected him to severe beating and then threw him in the lock-up, he said.

After learning about the incident, Sepco workers reached the police station and kept shouting slogans against police excesses and demanding release of their colleague.

The DIG suspended the SHO over the fiasco and directed DSP Yar Mohammad Rind to probe the incident who asked the SHO and Wapda union leaders to settle the dispute on Tuesday.
