KARACHI: Declaring that 301 buildings situated in different parts of the city were dangerous and could collapse anytime, the Sindh Building Control Authority has directed the residents to vacate these buildings for their own safety.

Responding to Dawn queries on Monday, SBCA acting director general Mumtaz Haider said that earlier the number of dangerous buildings in the city was 288, but a new survey was conducted a fewdays back which identified 13 more buildings in a dilapidated condition, taking the totalofdangerous buildings to 301.

Giving details of the dangerous buildings, he said some 136 were in Saddar Town, while Jamshed Town had 11; Lyari 21; Liaquatabad 18; Keamari three; Baldia Town three; Malir two; Shah Faisal Colony two, and Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Gulberg, Korangi, North Naziamabad and SITE one each.

He said the SBCA had informed/ warned the residents and shopkeepers of those buildings that they had been declared dangerous so they should vacatethe buildings for their own safety.

Mr Haider said the SBCA time and again had been sending notices to the residents of those buildings about the condition, but now its staff riding mobile vans made announcements through loudspeakers in the areas around those buildings so that not only the residents but their neighbours also knew about the condition of the structures.

He urged the people that if they saw any building in their vicinity in a precarious condition, they should inform the SBCA on 0219923 2354 so that those buildings could also be surveyed.
