Diplomats` dissent
2016-08-26
APROPOS the column `Diplomats` dissent` (Aug 6). The author, A.G.Noorani, has mentioned Garry J. Bass`s book: The Blood Telegram : India`s Secret War in East Pakistan.
How strong lobbies and vested interests use their influence in international af fairs is evident from the fact that for its paperback edition, published in 2014, the title of the book was changed to The Blood Telegram: Nixon, Kissinger, and a Forgotten Genocide.
Clearly this was done to obliterate from the sub-title the obvious and genuine impression that India had waged a secretwar in East Pakistan. Another objective might have been to not let potential readers be aware of the fact that East Pakistan was once a part of Pakistan. Besides, inserting the word `genocide` in the title conveys that the Pakistan Army committed annihilation of Bengalis in East Pakistan, a blatant lie which has been disputed even by honest Indian authors.
I would like to recall here also seeing in an American library, the title of the 1972 Annual Book published by India`s Research & Analysis Wing. It jubilantly proclaimed Pakistan partitioned.
