Couple held with smuggled arms

LAHORE: The Model Town CIA police claim to have arrested a couple of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa involved in smuggling of illegal weapons from tribal belt and recovered a good number of arms and ammunition hidden in their car.

According to a handout issued here on Friday, the CIA team headed by Inspector Bashir Niazi picketed at Motorway 11 near Thokar Niaz Beg after receiving information that arm smuggler Akhtar Nawaz was bringing weapons from the tribal area.

The police stopped a suspicious car and seized during checking eight rifles, 19 pistols, over 5,000 bullets, 60 magazines and other items worth millions.

Suspect Akhtar Nawaz was travelling along with his wife, Rubina, and children.

Police seized weapons and registered a case against Nawaz and his wife.

Police said Rubina was also involved in heinous trade and the couple used to travel with their children to deceive police.
