ISLAMABAD: National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court against an anchorperson of a private television channel.

The petition, filed through his counsel Hafiz S.A. Rehman, cited the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) and the owner and the anchorperson of the private TV channel as respondents.

In his petition, Mr Sadiq said the anchorperson had falsely accused him of kidnapping the father of an official of the National Database and Registration Authority to stop him from documenting evidence related to alleged rigging in the NA-122 election.

According to him, Pemra’s council of complaints did not consider his complaint. The speaker requested the court to direct Pemra to proceed with his complaint in accordance with the law.
