Students` attendance

2017-04-02
THE Sindh Education Department set up a biometric attendance system in May 2015 for government school teachers to identify and weed out ghost school teachers and other such black sheep from amongst its ranks. The scheme proved a success as more than 25,000 of fenders were identified and removed from the government payroll.

The education department should extend biometric attendance to government education institutions. Be it schools, colleges or universities, students` short-attendance is a problem that has become perennial.

The situation has become so bad in university campuses that students are mostly absent, asking classmates to sign proxies or they bunk from class after signing the attendance sheet. Our youth should realise they are harming none except themselves with such behaviour.

Ensuring a bio-metric attendance system is in place will go a long way in resolving this issue.
