T HIS is apropos Rafia Zakaria`s article, `Torture & young domestic workers` (March 10). The writer mentions that young girls are procured to satisfy sexual appetite of the male household out of sheer misandry.
The sufferings of these poor kids are prevalent just because of the pathetic and indifferent attitude of what I would term so-called educated women of today. Our mothers never had maids to extend a helping hand, and it was their prime responsibility to take care of their children and husband in addition to the routine household chores and in-laws. However the woman of today because of her education has brought about many negative changes in the basic texture of f amily life and society.
They prefer to be aloof, keep maids to take care of children and husbands, spend money to show off and on top of it waste time on social media discussing lawn trends and Bollywood gossip. They don`t have time for their children, house and husband. However whenever something happens, the maids are blamed straight away.
If these maids are maltreated, undernourished, poorly dressed who is responsible? And when these small soulsare punished, who is the one that primarily metes out the punishment? I feel women should have a second look at what needs to be put right rather than blaming men or society in general for this mess.
