UNIVERSITY Road has been dug up all the way from Hassan Square to Nipa Chowragni and beyond. The digging work started on both sides of the road about three months back.
While the side of the road leading to the university was fixed within a month, the portion leading to Expo Centre and Civic Centre has yet to be fixed. It is taking much longer on this side of the road asseveral pipelines are being laid.
All the earth which has been dug out is spreading pollution. Dust can be seen covering all kinds of vehicles and rickshaws. People who are allergic to dust have started suffering from serious breathing problems. It is also leading to cough and other ailments.
The dug-up road is also damaging and reducing the life of cars. It has also led to several accidents, including the toppling of a minibus which killed at least four people.
At the slow pace the work is being carried out, it seems that the environment is going to become worse with the coming of the monsoon. Work needs to be carried out at a hectic speed, so that it is completed before the rainy season.
I hope the auhorities concerned start planning things accordingly and complete the work before the monsoon begins.
