Illegalchambers`demolition Case against 43 lawyers for `violent` protest

BAHAWALPUR: The Cantonment police have registered a case against 43 lawyers under 16-MPO and other sections including 511, 447, 148 and 149 of PPC.

Twenty-eight of them have been nominated in the case of alleged hooliganism and manhandling of officials.

Revenue officer Sirajul Haq, in a complaint to police, alleged that the lawyers tried to construct illegal chambers on a piece of land owned by the provincial government.

He alleged that the lawyers threatened him with dire consequences when he stopped them from doing so and also manhandied government officials.

According to the FIR, the nominated lawyers are Nasirur Rehman, Syed Muhammad Ali Rizvi, Hafiz Niaz Hussain, Muhammad Irshad, AbdulSattar, Mian Shahid, Rafiq Qadir, Rashid Leghari, Saeed Ahmed, Safdar Channar,RafaqatBokhari, Asif Javed, Rab Nawaz, Shahzad Mahmood, Najamuzzaman, Waseem Abbas, Abid Saood, Shakil Ahmed, Mujahid Hussain, Asad Qureshi, Malik Raashid, Ayyaz Mehmood, Azhar Awan, Chaudhry Jamil, Irfan Sindhu, Ms Jamil Naz, Abdullah and Aitzaz Ahsan Abbas.

District Bar Association President Usman Farooq told Dawn that a case had been registered against 28 members of the Bar. He demanded withdrawal of the case.

This is the second time the lawyers attempted to build their chambers without fulfilling legal requirements. About two years ago, some lawyers had built chambers in the district courts and the administration attempted to demolish these but put off the operation at the last moment.
