CCPO asks policemen to share intel about street crime

LAHORE: The capital city police officer (CCPO) has reminded policemen about the intelligence sharing system recently introduced to share reports about crime in the provincial capital.
He directed of ficials to share information on a certain mobile phone number about land mafia, illegal arms, narcotics, proclaimed offenders, suspects, harassment and gambling dens.
CCPO retired Capt Amin Wains directed 35,000 police employees from constables to inspectors to report the city`s crime on the phone number, promising that their identity will not be disclosed.
`If theseinstructionsarefollowed,35,000intelligence reports will be collected every month and this strategy will help the police in controlling crime in the provincial capital,` CCPO Wains said while addressing a meeting of the police of ficials at Alhamra here on Monday.
Deputy Inspector General (Investigation) Chaudhry Sultan, Senior Superintendent of Police (Admin) RanaAyaz Saleem and other senior police officers were presentonthe occasion.
The meeting was called to appreciate the police force for its satisfactory performance during Youm-i-Ashur and regarding the intelligence system introduced at the police station level to fight street crime.
The CCPO said Lahore police had showed outstanding performance during major events here, including international cricket match, NA-120 by-elections, Eidul Fitr and Muharram. The next target was fighting street crime, he said, adding that for the purpose the intelligence system had been introduced for the first time to engage services of policemen to get information about crime handlers.
Addressing on the occasion, Rana Ayaz Saleem said that under the system policemen were being empowered to gather intelligence. He said the basic purpose of inviting police of ficials in a large number was to apprise them about the significance of the system.
He said presently, 35,000 cops were performing duties in Lahore and this was suf ficient to eliminate crime and revamp thana culture.
