2022-07-05
KARACHI: The Jamaat-i-Islami on Monday accused the federal and provincial governments of deliberately manipulating the original plan of K-IV project and warned that the Karachiites would not accept anycutin the designatedwater supply amount which was envisaged in 2003.

Addressing a press conference at the party headquarter Idara Noor-i-Haq, JI Karachi chief Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman questioned `silence` of the parties having mandate f rom Karachi over the fresh move of the federal government against the K-IV water supply project.

`This project [K-IV] is the need of the hour, and it`s a matter of life and death for Karachiites,` he said.

`How unfortunate it is that no political party, including the Pakistan Peoples Party, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and their ally Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan, is worried about this. But let me be very clear. With the support of people of Karachi, these parties would not be allowed to usurp the right of more than 30 million people.

He demanded the Sindh government to ensure completion of the K-IV project in its original capacity of 650 million gal-lons of water. He recalled that following the JI`s month-long protest outside the Sindh Assembly, Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah had visit the party and made assurances on implementation of the 650mn gallon water project.

He also referred to fresh move of his party`s welfare wing, Al-Khidmat, which had already established 11 Rain Emergency Centres in Karachi, as well as a team of volunteers had been deployed to handle any emergency. He was concerned over the lack of preparedness on partof the PPP government in Sindh in connection with the prevailing spell of rains, and demanded of the government to ensure arrangements to handle urban floods.

`The people of Karachi ask the Karachi administrator [Murtaza Wahab] that where does all the funds of nullah cleanliness has gone when nothing on ground has changed,` said Hafiz Naeem. `Our administrator on the other hand is using his party flags on the governmental vehicles of the local bodies department for political point scoring, instead of taking concrete measures to mitigate the miseries of Karachiites.
