PTI, MQM-P name candidates for NA-245 by-poll

KARACHI: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf the two key contesting pardes announced their candidate on Monday for the upcoming by-election on a National Assembly seat, NA-245, in Karachi that had fallen vacant recently after the death of PTI MNA Dr Aamir Liaquat Hussain.
In a statement, the MQM-P said that the party, after consultation and reviewing several names, decided to field Moeed Anwar as candidate for the NA-245 bypoll.
Mr Anwar was elected as District Municipal Corporation-East chairman in 2015 local government elections.
The PTI, which had boycotted the NA-240 by-poll last month, announced former Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Maritime Affairs MahmoodMaulvi as its candidate.
The seniorpartyleaders announcedthe candidate at a press conference where they vowed to resist any move to rig the upcoming by-election.
`Af ter rigging in first phase of local government elections, the blue-eyed police officers are being transferred,` accused the PTI Sindh chapter president Ali Zaidi.
`Sindh is also part of Pakistan, but here we see no writ of any Election Commission or judiciary. Elections are going to be held in NA-245, but we see that returning ofñceris being replaced here just ñfteen days before the voting, and new officer being brought from Khairpur.
He demanded the Election Commission to clearits posidon about thefresh transfers only in Sindh, and asked the police authorities to stay `neutral` during the upcoming NA by-poll. He accused that the law-enforcement agency sided with the ruling Pakistan Peoples Party in the first phase of LG elections in Sindh.
