Three suspected robbers gunned down in city

KARACHI: Three suspected criminals were killed in dif ferent parts of the city on Monday, police said.

Two of the suspects were killed in alleged police encounters while the third one was killed by a citizen.

In Korangi, a suspected robber was shot dead in an `encounter` on Monday evening.

Zaman Town SHO Zahid Lodhi said that armed robbers snatched a cell phone from a citizen at Chakra Goth, and were looting a woman when a police patrol reached there.

In an ensuing exchange of firing, suspect Mohsin Zakir was shot in the leg and arrested while his accomplices managed to escape. The wounded was shif ted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), where he was pronounced dead.

The police claimed to have recovered a pistol and a snatched motorbike from him.

In the second incident, a suspected robber, who shot at and wounded three citizens, was killed in an alleged encounter near the Dow University of Health Sciences Ojha campus late on Sunday night.

Sachal SHO Aurangzeb Khattak said that three suspects tried to snatch cash and other valuables from as many citizens on Suparco Road. As the citizens put up resistance, the robbers opened fire on them, resulting in bullet injuries to Saeed, Imtiaz and Safdar Husain.

In the meantime, a police patrol heard gunshots and rushed to the spot and challenged the suspects. In an exchange of ñring, one suspect, idendhed as Waseem Ali, was arrested in an injured condition, while his two accomplices managed to escape f rom the spot.

The injured suspect was shifted to theAbbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH), where doctors pronounced him dead.

The three wounded citizens were shifted to the nearby DUHS hospital.

The SHO said two persons received minor injuries while the condition of third serious wounded person was also improving.

The police recovered one pistol along, snatched cell phones, cash and a motorbike.

The of ficer believed that two escaped suspects were also injured during the encounter and the police were searching for them.

In the third incident in Surjani Town, a suspected robber was shot dead by a citizen during a house robbery on Monday, according to police.

They said four unknown robbers barged into a house in Sector 5-C, where owner Muhammad Imran put up resistance and opened fire on them, killing a suspect on the spot.

Three of his accomplices, including one in an injured condition, managed to escape from the crime scene.

Thepohcereachedthe spotandrecovered two 9mm pistols with loaded magazine,a purse andthreecellphones.

The body was shifted to the ASH to fulfil medico-legal formalities.

Robbers` gang active in DHA busted Police on Monday claimed to have busted a gang involved in house burglaries in Defence by arresting five suspects with the help of technology.

DIG-South Sharjeel Kharal said that a large quantity of stolen jewellery, highend watches and other items worth millions of rupees had been recovered from their possession.

He said that investigation revealed that the held suspects belonged to Rahim Yar Khan`s Katcha area, and worked as cooks, drivers, gardeners, etc, in DHA bungalows for gathering information to commit crime later.

The investigation further revealed that this gang had been carrying out crimes for the past three years.
