Man killed in `sectarian attack`

KARACHI: A young man was shot dead in a `sectarian attack` in Nazimabad-2 on Monday evening, police said.

The Gulbahar police added that Syed Shahid Hussain Zaidi, 32, aka Khurram Shah, was returning from work at a printing press when he was targeted by armed men riding two motorcycles.The attackers, two of them wearing helmets, sped away after firing at the young man.

He was later taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.

`It appeared to be a sectarian killing,` opined SSP Central Amir Faroogi.

He said the victim worked at the printing press besides he also had some printing business.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson of theMajlis-i-Wahdul Muslimeen said that killing of Khurram Shah had put a question mark over the performance of the law-enforcement agencies.

Trader killed The owner of a mobile phone accessories shop was gunned down in a suspected targeted attack in the Saddar area on Monday morning, police said.

They added that Abdul SamadTabani, 48, was shot dead in a driveby shooting when he was about to get out of an auto rickshaw near his shop in the Saddar Electronics Market. He was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

The market was closed in protest following the murder of the shopkeeper. The Saddar SP said the police were patrolling the neighbouring area at the time of the murder.
