HYDERABAD: Severely criticising the statement of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah regarding establishment of Zulfikarabad, Sindh United Party (SUP) president Syed Jalal Mehmood Shah said on Wednesday that the SUP supported the development process that did not target local population.

In a statement issued here, he said the PPP government wanted to auction lands of Jamshoro after Bahria Town, Thatta and Sujawal. He criticised the meeting chaired by the CM regarding ZulHkarabad and said the entire land of Sindh belonged to the people of this province and its future generation.

He maintained that the people of Sindh would not let the government to auction the land at a throwaway price.

He said the PPP believed in development for strangers in order to make a few leaders multi billionaires, but this philosophy could deprive Sindhi people of their right to rule. The SUP didnot support such strange development, he said.

The SUP chief said the development of local population was considered true development, but the PPP government was working quite contrary to it. He termed the CM`s thinking as `paralysed`, saying that if Zulfikarabad would herald a revolution, why cities like Dadu, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Jamshoro, Umerkot, Mithi and Tando Mohammad Khan were ruined.

He said that despite Rs869 billion budget, the Sindh government lacked a plan for human development of Sindh.

He also regretted the thinking and role of the Sindh finance minister, who was craving for becoming head of the committee for the ZulHakrabad project, butnotready to announce any development package for his own district Jamshoro. He said 1.5 million people of Jamshoro did not have access to clean drinking water. He urged parliamentarians from Thatta, Sujawal and Jamshoro not to let themselves `used` for these projects where outsiders would be settled to make Jamshoro, Thatta and Sujawal the cities of outsiders like Karachi.Separately, in a statement, Jeay Sindh Liberal Front leader Nawaz Khan Zaunr Mohammad Ali Khushik and others have termed Zulfikarabad project an anti-Sindh project which is aimed at settling more outsiders in Sindh.

They said that such project would lead to destruction of Sindhi people. They condemned allocations for Zulfikarabad project in Sindh government`s budget and said that any government campaign for the project would be opposed by their party.

They said that before talking about rehabilitation of Haleji lake, the Sindh chief minister should have made efforts to rehabilitate Manchhar lake and develop Keenjhar tourist resort as per international standards. They said the PPP government was launching projects to earn kickbacks.

They sarcastically said Tharparkar would be benefited from Zulfikarabad the way Badin was getting benefits of oil and Ghotki of its gas.

They said the CM should have avoided making false claims, adding that Zulfikarabad would not be accepted.
