Pakistan Movement and dialogue on art

LAHORE: Since almost all cultural bodies falling within the purview of the government are holding Independence Day events, the Pakistan National Council of Arts will also organise a seminar and a dialogue on art on Wednesday (tomorrow) as part of the Aug 14 celebrations.

Be it Punjab Council of Arts, Lahore Arts Council or Punjab Institute of Language, Art and Culture, all such cultural institutions are organising functions to mark Independence Day.

Punjab Council of Arts recently held a photograph exhibition on Pakistan Movement. Similarly Lahore Arts Council invited singers from all four provinces for a national music evening where singers enthralled audience with national songs. PILAC held a poetry sitting.

This dialogue on art is the second event by PNCA in connection with Independence Day celebrations.

Earlier the council had organised an exhibition of caricatures in line with Pakistan Movement.

Elaborating the idea of dialogue on art, Shakir Ali Museum, a subsidiary of Islamabad-based PNCA, Director Amna Pataudi told Dawn that the dialogue revolved around the gradual changes and development inPakistani art especially when it comes to nationalism and the art produced depicting Pakistani landscape.

Ms Pataudi said: `It`s a dialogue with Pakistani artists titled `Sharing views on Pakistani art and culture with Quddus Mirza.

`It is being organised by PNCA in collaboration with Ministry of Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage.

She said the dialogue would encompass almost all aspects of art including the contribution of contemporary artist to Pakistani artist.

She said the dialogue going to be held on Aug 20 at Shakir Ali Museum would also follow a question and answer session.

The Q&A session would be recorded and later it would be published by PNCA.

Prominent artists like Prof. Saeed Akther, Prof Ahmed Khan,. Mehmood Hassan Rumi, Prof Shah Nawaz Zadi, Dr. Ijaz Anwar, Prof Bashir Ahmad, Prof.

Salima Hashmi, Muhammad Asif, Nazish Attaullah, Dr.

Rahat Naveed Masood, Dr Murtaza Jafery, Mahboob Ali, Maliha Azmi Agha, Kehkashan Jafery, Ghulam Mustafa, Anwar Saeed, Afshar Malik, Nousheen Saeed, R. M.

Naeem, M. Ali Talpur, Ali Kazim, Sarah Khan, Dua Abbas, Rashad Rana, Rana Raiz, Ayaz Jokhiyo, Rasham Husain Syed are expected on the occasion.
