GUJRAT: Police on Sunday claimed to have killed a `notorious outlaw` allegedly involved in the assassination of a Sara-i-Alamgir-based journalist last month.
The journalist Mirza Waseem Beig was gunned down by unidentified assailants at the doorstep of his house near Puran area of Sara-i-Alamgir last month.
According to police, a suspect, identified as Rafique, was killed in an encounter with the police near Rakh Pubbi Sarkar area along GT Road, Kharian, whereas one of his accomplices was arreste d af ter he wasinjuredin the shootout.
The police said the injured suspect told the investigators that Beig was gunned down by his accomplice who was killed in the encounter with police. The deceased criminal was wanted in a number of cases of heinous crime, including murder and attempted murder, the police claimed.
The dead body of the suspected killer of the journalist was shifted to the Kharian Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, while the injured suspect was also admitted there. Correspondent
