LAHORE: Various Christian organisations and churches on Thursday announced joining Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf and its campaign against the `corrupt` prime minister.
The Christian organisations leaders and PTI Insaf Professional Forum members demanded that the prime minister resign prior to appearing before the Joint Investigation Team.
Speaking at a news conference at a local hotel, IPF Chairperson Dr Yasmin Rashid said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had defamed the Pakistani nation world over. She regretted that the prime ministerwas himself recognising corruption and expressing his [government`s] inability to plug it.
`Until and unless big guns will be punished in an exemplary manner, the affairs in the country cannot be streamlined,` she asserted. She said party chief Imran Khan was unwavering and steadfast in his campaign aimed at rooting out corruption from the country`s institutions to lead the society towards ultimate good.
She said former prime minister Yusuf Raza Gilani had resigned, when he was supposed to appear before the Supreme Court in a contempt of court case.Dr Yasmin also urged her party MPAs to submit a resolution in the Punjab Assembly demanding that the prime minister resign prior to appearing before the JIT.
Otherwise, she said, the Pakistani nationwouldcontinueto be defamed around the globe.
Representing 27 Christian leaders from organisations and churches, National Council of Church in Pakistan General Secretary Victor Azariah said Imran Khan is a clean political leader in the country, who ensured through his struggle constitution of JIT to probe the prime minister. Staff Reporter
