Experimental medical admission policy

2015-10-16
GOVERNMENT medical colleges in Sindh`s interior have announced their new admission policy for 2015-16, but the alarming thing is that this time the admission policy is beyond comprehension.

For example, before this new admission policy, the students seeking admission to medical colleges of Larl(ana, Jacobabad, Dadu and some other districts got one form and submitted it at Shaheed Mohatarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University, Larkana (SMBBMU). But now the seats, with a minor increase in the number, have been distributed between SMBBMU, Peoples Medical College, Nawabshah , and the newly-established Khairpur Medical College.

Now each student will have to buy three forms one for each medical college.

Importantly, one form costs about Rs2,500. And every student will have to appearin separate entry testsofthese medical institutions.

The dropout in higher education is already high in Pakistan, and this new policy will further discourage poor and middle-class students from pursuing higher studies. The need is that the Sindh government should withdraw this new admission policy.
