THE recent unjust and poorly-timed increase in fares by two airlines in Pakistan does not come as a surprise. It has become a norm in our country to exploit the disadvantaged.
Why don`t we perceive such situations as an opportunity to help fellow citizens like the people of France did during last year`s Paris attacks when numerous taxis gave free rides to passengers? Had those airlines accommodated passengers with normal fares even if not offering them free flights, it would have created much more respect in the hearts of the people and earned goodwill for the airlines.
If the privatisation process is completed in the true sense, then the extraordinary profits earned by them will be the last one as due to tough competition they will be either out of business or earn marginal pronts andnevergetachance againto take advantage of passengers` miseries.
