Ehtesab Commission

2016-02-26
THE Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government recently made some amendments to Ehtesab Act 2015. These amendments make it mandatory for Ehtesab Commission to inform the speaker of the provincial assembly before arresting any assembly member on charges of corruption. Similarly, it should inform the chief secretary before arresting a civil servant.

These amendments are nothing but a nexus between politicians and bureaucrats to evade accountability. But, accountability and autonomy of Ehtesab Commision are interlinked.

These amendments must be condemned in as strong a manner as possible. Unless the Ehtesab Commission is fully autonomous, accountability will remain elusive.
