I FONDLY remember former chief justice of the Supreme Court Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry from his days of judicial activism.
He stood steadfast during the dictatorial days of Pervez Musharraf and even sent home a former prime minister during the Zardari-led PPP government. He was astrong-willed person and did not bend before rulers. After his departure, judicial activism died down. The apex court should take its cue from that era, reignite judicial activism and take far-reaching decisions on matters of national importance. The critical issue at the moment is failing governance both at the centre and the provinces when the nation is in a state of war.
Chief Justice Zaheer A. Jamali had to publicly air his concern over the state of poorgovernance and corruption.Letthis be translated into action. People are lool(ing to the apex court for relief from the jungle law and widespread injustice prevalent in the country.
