Electronics mall gutted by blaze

TOBA TEK SINGH: A hre erupted in a threestorey plaza, reducing electronics appliances worth Rs160 million to ashes here on Friday night at Bansanwala Bazaar, Gojra.

Locals claimed that the moment lightning struck, a blaze erupted in the largest electronics store of the city. Fire tenders of Rescue 1122 and municipal committees were called to control the fire from Gojra and Toba Tek Singh. Firefighters continued their efforts for several hours till Saturday morning when they succeeded to completely extinguish the fire.

Plaza owner Raja Muhammad Asghar said the the fire might have broken out due to lightning or a short circuit. He said hundreds of refrigerators, air conditioners and LED TVs were among the [gutted] valuables Deputy Commissioner Ms AminaMunir and GojraAssistant Commissioner Ms Sundas Haris supervised the firefighting operation. A probe is under way.

ROOF COLLAPSE: Threepeoplewereinjured in a roof collapse here on Friday night at Chak 331JB Athwal during windstorm and rain.

Rescue 1122 said villagers and rescuers removed the debris and rescued the family members. The injured have been identified as Yasmeen Bibi (18), daughter of Abid Hussain, her brother Peeran Ditta (7) and her sister Khanum (6).

Rain and windstorm also damaged crops especially wheat fields across the district and uprooted hundreds of trees, besides disrupting electricity supply.

INJURED: Over 12 schoolchildren belonging to Chak 191-GB, Makhdoomanwali, were injured when their bus overturned on Saturday.

The injured students were admitted to Rajana rural health centre.
